Style Stamped is founded upon the idea of highlighting art at its best and providing a soundboard for all things creative, especially as they tie into fashion. A recent event entitled “The Natural Aristocratic Tea” held in Brooklyn, NY, brought this creativity to life, topped off with fashion, in one of the most stylish of settings! Natural Hollywood Magazine‘s Founder and Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Lord, partnered together with Sabine Bellevue of Sabine’s Hallway Natural Hair Salon to present the initial installation of The Natural Aristocratic Tea, or TNAT, as it was so widely hash-tagged throughout social media. What is TNAT? Well, it was a tea of course; a tent covered event filled with beautiful women, men, and children dressed in their best. And that’s just in mention of the attendees! There were also models for a vintage showcase, a fashion show, live jazz music and a room full of smiles and style. Style meaning…everyone was Style Stamped!!
TNAT is a brainchild of Jennifer Lord, who got the idea of hosting a tea for the natural hair community after reminiscing on a photo shoot she had a few years ago for her magazine Natural Hollywood, staged at a Tea Room in Baltimore, Md. The photo shoot featured natural hairstyles and beautiful ladies drinking tea and dressed in high-fashion vintage dresses. Jennifer, who has a heart for vintage and days of fashion’s past when “dressing up” was not an option but a way of life, often incorporates vintage looks into her magazine, photo shoots, and events. Jennifer decided to bring this idea to life right in the middle of Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn, a place she was born, raised, and currently calls home.
Within the tent attendees sat at tables properly set for tea while outside an art exhibit showcase of ten ladies dressed in beautiful vintage dresses and accessories, all from Stellah’s Vintage Groove in Brooklyn sat in sculpture-like form. The ladies held their poses for what seemed like hours while setting the stage for this different yet exciting event.
Nothing was more enjoyable that meeting all of the wonderful ladies in attendance and seeing all the different interpretations of “Tea Style”. We even learned a new style term, “Fascinators”, a mix between a hair accessory and a hat which adorned the heads of many ladies. There were also hats, gloves, and other accessories. And the hair! There were so many amazing natural hairstyles. It was an amazing sight.
The children in attendance were Style Stamped too!
There was a Fashion Show byReuben Reuel of De-Mes’tiks that featured ethnic prints and fabulous styles! The models were fab, all hair and glam by the TNAT team.
This event put on by Natural Hollywood and Sabine’s Hallway was a wonderful way to spend a Spring day in New York City. We love getting dressed up so this was of course right up our alley! Good music by the Koncoction band, Moroccan tea, treats and sandwiches, fashion and new friends. We can’t wait to see TNAT go on the road! That’s right! We heard they will be coming to cities soon…next stop Atlanta, GA in the fall of 2014. 🙂
