Surprise, surprise! I’m having a baby. I have to keep reminding myself that it’s actually happening in real life, and at my current 21 weeks I need to make sure it sinks in soon because I’ll be a new mom to a little boy in just a few short months. I’ve always wanted another child, a boy for sure, after getting into the right relationship of course. But even with having those wants and desires and watching life happen the way you want it to (finally), it’s still a surprise when your dreams actually come true! Needless to say we are all very happy. My pre-teen is feeling a little weird, after 13 years of being an only child she’ll have a sibling. I keep reminding her that it’s ok, I was 18 and in college when my mother had my sister! Families come in all shapes and sizes but the love remains the same.
I got with one of the best photographers in DC, QT Photography Studio, to take the first official pics of my pregnancy. For my look I chose to wear a mustard color mini dress with kimono sleeves and metallic buttons from Zara. I switched between these gingham heels and the shoes I’ve come to love most, the metallic ZERØGRAND Genevieve Perforated Sneakers from my boyfriend’s favorite shoe store, Cole Haan. They are the most comfortable footwear I’ve ever owned. For accessories, I grabbed my old wrap belt and my red envelope bag to spice up the look and topped it off with red lips, black hoop earrings, and blue nails. Blue for boy of course!
I wasn’t sure if this dress would work during these months, as it’s not a maternity dress but it fits perfectly (for now at least). I purchased it at the Zara in Manhattan on 5th Ave, but I can’t find it online! I found a similar one here.
We waited a while before spreading the news widely as I do have Lupus and an 18 year old kidney transplant, not to mention I’m no longer in my 20’s :). We wanted to make sure that every thing checked out well before shouting “we are having a baby!!!!” from the rooftops and to our joy, all is well!
I’m very much looking forward to adding a new face to our family. What I can say most is that I’m extremely grateful to be blessed with more time to be healthy enough to carry this baby, another chance to love, and a second go round at motherhood. I’m glad I maintained through all those years of struggle to get to this point of happiness. It was worth it!
