So…I recently got a new job…yay! It’s another office job, yes, but unlike my previous position it requires me to “dress-up” daily versus being able to get away with wearing jeans five days a week (as I have been the majority of the last two years). Some might find this closet spectrum change a harsh jolt to the wardrobe system. Your level of “What to Wear” may kick into fifth gear, and you may find yourself staring at your closet in a confused, zombie-like demeanor more often. You may get frustrated by those nuances such as ironing, dry cleaner visits, and wearing outfits that can be well…just flat out uncomfortable and somewhat boring. In my opinion, dressing up daily requires an attitude adjustment. This adjustment must start with the understanding that in most cases, people see you first. After that, you do your work. So why not make the phrase “What you see is what you get” work for you in an office setting – a polished and intelligent individual who is going places. You may not be there yet, but dress the part whether you have it or not!
Dressing for any occasion, including a 9-5, can be fun. As we know, clothes are a way to express ourselves and even while in a more conservative arena, you can still let your personality come through in a room full of grey and black suits. Since navy blue is my certified favorite color this season, I incorporate it into my look a few times a week. Wearing a favorite color and/or pattern is a venue to exude confidence and personality as well! Here I wore plaid and polka dot…my two top fave patterns. ♥
My skirt, sweater, and necklace were a Black Friday special from the J. Crew factory outlet. I was excited to find this skirt 50% off. I fell in love with both the skirt and this necklace last month, so to come back and find it on sale was a shoppers delight. I purchased this lightweight coat earlier this fall from H&M, and my shirt is from Banana Republic. They make great tailored shirts for work!
