I’m not sure where you are, but here in Washington, DC, it snowed this weekend. A lot. On a Saturday at that! So needless to say most events were cancelled leaving not much to do but watch TV and come up with outfit ideas. I decided to do the latter. I’ve thrown around the idea of mixed prints for a while, but I’ve never actually tried it. It’s a bold move to mix prints and it can be intimidating, but it’s oh so much fun. There’s something about mixing prints and creating an oxymoron that is just, well, …fashion! I was invited out to the movies later on that night and decided to put my outfit to work. Please excuse the falling snow in the pics and the ice drops clinging to my hair.
I took a striped mock-neck long-sleeve shirt and paired it with a floral midi skirt. Since it was snowing, I wore tights (I’m from NY so layering is a must!), long grey gloves, over the knee boots, a red envelope bag to balance the color in the skirt, and a leather jacket. Mixing prints is quite chic, but adding a faux leather bomber makes the outfit edgy. “Chic edgy.” I like that!
I’ve had each of these items in my closet for quite some time, but if you’re looking for patterned skirts at a reasonable price, (mine came from Forever 21 for $20), check out this site called Chicwish! They have some really cute patterned midi skirts. Mixing prints for your look doesn’t have to be limited to stripes and floral; don’t forget about houndstooth, checkered print, and polka dots too! Here are some inspirational ideas I created for you (Click the picture for links to items):
