Last night’s National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards was full of expected wins, colorful speeches, handsome men and of course, fancy frocks!
There was not one moment of dullness on the red carpet or the stage at the 46th annual NAACP Image Awards held in Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California on February 6, 2015. The most popular stars representing Film, Television, Music, and Literature showed up in their best, and showed out!
Tracee Ellis Ross certainly set the stage for fashion perfection in her amazingly fitted, glamorous beaded gown with a plunging neckline and high front split. The winner of Outstanding Actress in Comedy for her role in Black-ish also gave a wonderful speech:
“I just want to say this. I love being a woman. I love playing a woman. I love being a whole and full woman. I am more than my parts, and we all are. And we all, as women, need to continue to change our gaze from how we are seen to how we are seeing. We are full and beautiful women, and let us live in that…”
One of my favorite actors from one of my favorite shows wowed on the red carpet in the hardest color to wear on the red carpet, red! Kerry Washington looked amazing in her Zuhair Murad triangle-top lace empire waist gown. I’ll admit she’s had a few red-carpet misses the past few events, but not this time. She nailed it! She looks best when she’s showing off her sexy figure in a modest way, just like Olivia Pope would. Style Stamped!
Another amazing gown was draped on the fit figure of Gabrielle Union. Her Gauri and Nainika dress was a stunning image of modern glamour. The skirt was full, matching a top that was fitted with cut-outs showing off her toned sides and back. Not many could pull off this dress in such a perfect way. This dress is winning for sure!
Taraji P. Henson was a big winner although we didn’t love her Georges Chakra dress or hairstyle. Laverne Cox’s gown was quite stunning; an eggplant Gustavo Cadile with a full skirt and sheer panel along her cleavage. Teyonah Parris stole the red carpet with her modern Cinderella-like gown from the Haus of Falenci’ago. Stunning! Angella Bassett of course is every woman’s dream come true, as she lays out the example of what 56 years of life looks like for the very lucky, at best. She wows as always, in her black and gold gown from Xtreme. The beautiful Gugu Mbatha-Raw looks springtime tea ready in her fresh Burberry dress, and Aja Naomi King fit into the category of best white and neutral dresses that seems to be a trend that is not ready to exit the stage just yet. Naomi, representing for the best new show on TV (in our opinion), How To Get Away with Murder, looked simple and elegant in her beaded white Alice + Olivia top and floor length skirt. All of the men looked handsome in their suits as well!
