I’ve been having a lot of good luck scoring second-hand finds lately. I visited the Buffalo Exchange in Washington, DC this week for the first time. I’ve heard a lot about this store, and I know it’s located in several different cities across 16 states but I had never been to any of them. While I had a few minutes to spare, I ran into one of the DC stores to browse around. First off, the store was packed with goods for both men and women. Some new some used some vintage, but all donated or “exchanged” by patrons re-sold at a reasonable price. I didn’t go in expecting to find anything but as my shopper’s eye would have it, I ended up with an outfit that consisted of two pieces; one new with tags, and one old vintage from the 1950’s. The irony in this was that the dress, brand new with tags, was a “What Comes Around Goes Around” for Anthropologie dress, meaning it was designed to be vintage inspired. The second item I found was a cropped jacket by “Lilli Ann’s Petite”, a well-known American fashion house in the 1950’s that made quality ready-to-wear clothing. I put them together and wa-la! A new old outfit.
The dress is a shift silhouette made of tone-on-tone Jacquard fabric in a tangerine orange. The back of the dress was most interesting; there are three big round buttons with hook-and-eye closures and a bustle. Very 60’s mod-inspired!
The jacket is an off-white cropped 3/4 inch sleeves with three pearl buttons wrapped in gold braiding. The fancy buttons have hook-and-eye closures. The jacket is in such impeccable condition you would never think that it is 60 years old!
I had a lot of fun putting these two pieces together. I pulled my hair back into an “Olivia Pope” inspired front part bun and wore a pair of Tory Burch brown snake print heels. My jewelry was minimal with a pair of earrings that go all the way up the ear from Forever 21 and some stacked gold spiked and pearl bracelets. I can’t forget the lipstick. Since the dress was so bright I thought why not make my lips bright too! MAC’s “So Chaud” is on my pout. 🙂
