Style Crush 2014: Tracee Ellis Ross

I love style. That goes without saying. In my opinion, great, top of the line, indistinguishable style, makes my heart beat just a little bit faster. It captures my attention a little sooner, and  holds it because it’s intriguing. I love asking the question to dope street stylers…how did you come up with that? The ideal way to put together an intriguing outfit, in my opinion, is to do it in your own realm, untouched by what’s been seen on who or where, what trends are “in”, or what celebs donned the latest attire that can’t be afforded. To me, that’s what makes it art because there are no two pieces of art that are the same. If we both draw a tree, both trees will be different. That’s just the way art is. Artist who create are fascinating to me, in any kind of creative form, but especially in style (of course!). That is what marks a “crush” –  it’s a fascination with a being who can produce something that can’t be duplicated because it truly came from within. And that’s my reasoning for an “in-style” crush.

Having said all of that, I admit that I have “style crushes” on several people. For 2014, there may be a few, but the one who comes to mind first is Tracee Ellis Ross. And no it’s not because she is the co-star of a new show this year Black-ish (although the show is great), and it’s not because she’s the daughter of a living legend (who’s style is also crazy). It’s for several reasons. For one, she looks like she picks out her own clothes. For two, she looks like her personality fits her clothes. For three, she’s not a trendy teenie-bopper trying to get attention through clothes; she’s a grown ass woman….with style! Super dope style. I mean, yeah, I look up to her. I’d wear pretty much whatever she’d wear. Although I’m sure she would come up with it first! I love it. ♥ ♥ ♥
