Galentine’s. I’d heard of the name before but I never knew the date or had anything to do with it. I was always focused on the romantic partner part of the whole Valentine’s holiday, trying to get someone to love me, or the event as much as I did. My mom is the reason I fell in love with “Love Day” in the first place; she’d get me little treats and write cute letters and surprise me with gifts left on my bed that I’d find after coming home from school. I was infatuated with the reds and pinks, the hearts, flowers and candies. Valentine’s Day just looked, and felt, so right. I’d recreate this day, trying to bring back the feelings of unconditional love for many years after that. Sometimes it worked, making it a “wonderful” Valentine, and sometimes it didn’t, making it a “terrible” one.
A few weeks ago I was invited to a Galentine’s photo shoot by a fellow blogger, and I wasn’t super excited at first. Even though I’m pushing myself to try new things and not focus on the negative in this season, I wasn’t clear on what Galentine’s day meant or what it involved. But I agreed to do it. What started as a simple photo shoot idea ended up as an overnight stay at the Thompson Hotel in DC with 3 other lady bloggers over 40 from the DMV. We didn’t know each other, or had never met in person I should say, outside of social media.
But once we met it was like we’d always known each other. That’s the thing about social media, it can work in a really good social way! We laughed, coordinated looks, posed, and just had a good time. It was also an honor for the Thompson Hotel to host us for this event, which made an even greater impression on my first Galentine’s Day because this was a staycation I didn’t realize I needed!
But back to fashion….and sisterly love, check out our looks! We wanted to represent what Galentine’s means: bright and lively fun times between girl friends.
I loved this Galentine’s day, it made me so happy to be with these ladies! Here’s a recipe for a great Galentine’s Day:
- Be with great positive gals.
- Find a cute location to hang out with no curfew.
- Grab some coordinating colorful looks that will scream fun.
- Add drinks and good food of course!
- Take lots of pics.
- Repeat every year for best results!
