Sweatshirts are the best, coziest, most comfortable tops ever made. They are considered a more casual article of clothing; something to lounge around in or wear to the gym. But what about a more fashionable look? Can a sweatshirt be worn for a fashion forward look? Absolutely. There are no rules against being cozy, and chic…at the same time .
I love sweatshirts and how they’ve evolved into the chic category over the past two Fall seasons. Graphic and designer sweatshirts are still “in” and from where we stand, we don’t think they will ever go “out”! This notion falls right in line with a Style Stamped rule – Do not purchase items that you can’t rotate in your closet for at least three years (or longer). Stick with the trends that won’t end. (I just made that up, and it rhymes…so laugh…). Sweatshirts will always be. So why not incorporate them into your wardrobe for good and add sense of chic and comfort all at once!
Check out my three graphic sweatshirt looks:
This first look I wore to work last Friday. My company’s dress rule allows wearing dark jeans to work as long as we don’t have client meetings, and I take full advantage of this because well, it’s denim. I’ve collected and hoarded as many jeans as I can fit into my closet since I was in middle school and I’ll never get tired of wearing them. They are my comfort zone and my go-to item – I love jeans. All kinds of jeans as long as they fit well. And what’s better than a cute, chic sweatshirt with a pair of skinny dark denim? Not much.
Fall into a Cute Sweatshirt by stylestamped
I paired my J. Brand skinny jeans with a high-low Proenza Schouler graphic sweatshirt from the Neiman Marcus/Target collection in 2013. But there are many cute sweatshirts out now, H&M has some great sweatshirt options and they are often on sale. I wore a black and white polka dot button down under this sweatshirt to take off some of the “casual” edge. I also wore a pair of Tory Burch heels with a lug sole; a lug sole adds ruggedness while keeping it sexy when a heel is involved. I added a small cross-body bag and simple jewelry and the look was complete!
Fall weather is fickle; it can be hot one day and chilly the next. I find that on chiller days, my legs don’t get as cold as the rest of my body and that’s how I decided on this second look. I paired this H&M sweatshirt with black midi shorts – as long as my upper body is warm, I’m good! I wore a denim shirt under this floral graphic sweatshirt to add balance, and added a grey top handle bag and cut-out booties (from DSW many seasons ago) and a funky necklace and vintage looking earrings. Get the look!

How about a sweatshirt with…a pleated skirt? There is just something about a skirt with pleats that makes it just a little bit more dressy than other skirts. The juxtapose is perfect – so of course I tried it. I balanced it out with a pair of lace up booties, a sparkly collar necklace and a sparkly black clutch.
Cute outfits! Have a great weekend!
